Carbon Resistance PCB Characteristics

Carbon Resistance printed circuit boards are often used in the trend of multi-functionality and miniaturization of electrical appliances and meters, and are used in many fields, such as machine tools, automotive control components, home appliances, electronic toys, etc., generally in electronic products. When printing a carbon film on the surface of a printed wiring board, the electrical resistance value is generally in the range of 1 kΩ to 500 kΩ, and it cannot be applied to a product with a high voltage input, and thus a high-resistance carbon film printed wiring board is deliberately developed.

Carbon Resistance PCB Manufacturing Process

The existing high-resistance carbon circuit board is realized by a conventional screen printing technology, and a high-resistance carbon film thickness is directly formed by directly printing a high-resistance carbon ink on a conductive metal layer with a screen having a thickness of 30 μm or more. For 12-15μm, the high-resistance carbon ink mainly includes resin and carbon. Due to the large film thickness, the carbon distribution is uneven. The resistance value of the high-resistance carbon film at different positions is large, that is, the resistance value of the formed product is large. The high defect rate leads to unstable products and affects the performance of the product.

Carbon Resistance PCB feature a power rating range of 0.125 W to 5 W at 70 °C. Resistances available range from 1 ohm to 10 megohm. The carbon film resistor has an operating temperature range of −55 °C to 155 °C. It has 200 to 600 volts maximum working voltage range.

What is the concept of tolerance in carbon resistor?

Tolerance is the percentage of error in the resistor's resistance, or how much more or less you can expect a resistor's actual measured resistance to be from its stated resistance. A gold tolerance band is 5% tolerance, silver is 10%, and no band at all would mean a 20% tolerance.

What is the use of carbon resistor?

Carbon resistors are a cheap general purpose resistor used in electrical and electronic circuits. Their resistive element is manufactured from a mixture of finely ground carbon dust or graphite (similar to pencil lead) and a non-conducting ceramic (clay) powder to bind it all together.

Carbon film resistor is one of film resistors. It is made by using high temperature vacuum coating technology to attach carbon tightly to the surface of ceramic rod to form a carbon film, then cut with appropriate joint, and coat epoxy resin on its surface for sealing protection. Its surface is often coated with green protective paint. The thickness of carbon film determines the value of resistance. The resistor is usually controlled by controlling the thickness of the film and grooving.

Why are carbon resistors preferred?

The carbon film resistors are more preferred over carbon composition resistors because the carbon film resistors produce less noise than the carbon composition resistors.
